MECUDA General Executive Meeting: Key Highlights and Future Plans

On July 7, 2024, the MECUDA General Executive gathered for a crucial meeting at the MECUDA Hall in Tiko. The meeting, which started promptly at 10 am, was well-attended by members from near and far, reflecting the unity and commitment of the Meta community.

Opening Session

The meeting began with an opening prayer, followed by royal greetings, a roll call, and verification of the quorum. The agenda was read and adopted, setting the stage for a productive session. The host branch president welcomed everyone, followed by opening remarks and general information from the President General (PG), Professor Oliver Njoh.

Key Opening Remarks and Issues Discussed

Functioning of Departments: Discussions on the communications department, the Secretary General’s operations, and the secretariat’s efficiency.

Social Media Presence: The outing of the Vice President General on social media.

MECUDA Douala: Addressing issues and planning the way forward for the executive committee.

Review of the First Half of 2024

The review covered several significant activities and projects:

  • Visits and Meetings: PG and SG’s visit to the Palace of Zang-Tabi, meetings with Fons regarding IRAD issues.
  • Infrastructure Projects: The Toneku Bridge project, and support for the Ngyen-Mbo and Njindom road and bridge projects.
  • Cultural and Community Engagements: Launch of the farming season, MECUDA’s participation in Michiebeng, a workshop with the Mbororro community, and MACFES in Limbe.
  • Health and Support Initiatives: Support for the health of the Fon and other community members.
  • Development Funds and Committees: Discussions on the MECUDA Project Committee, Meta Development Fund, and the MECUDA History Committee.
  • Global Uniform Initiative: MECUDA UK’s global uniform project and PG’s visit to Cicam.
  • Specific Issues: The Njaah Acha-Tugi problem, Njinibi Sub-Division, and PG’s delegation visit to the Prime Minister.
  • Diaspora Correspondence: Communications with MECUDA diaspora members.

Planning for the Second Half of 2024

The agenda for the remainder of the year includes:

  • Zoom Meetings: Proposal for downtown Zoom meetings.
  • Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM)/Annual General Meeting (AGM): Planning meetings, budget, proposed activities, dates, and programs.
  • Community Engagements: Follow-up meeting with the Mbororro community and proposed MECUDA/MEFU EXCO meeting.
  • Development Projects: Meta Agricultural Development project with MECUDA USA, the property project in Mbon, and MECUDA GLOBAL uniform initiative.
  • Membership and Finances: Issuance of membership cards and presentation of the financial report.
  • Additional Matters: Matters arising, the Kwem Dance Association, and other business.

Tribute and Acknowledgements

A moment of silence was observed for the late Pa George Mbarika, a significant pillar in the Meta community, recently announced by HRM Fon Tabi of Zang-Tabi.

Unified Identity

Discussions on Meta’s unique fabric were a priority to ensure that Meta worldwide can be identified as one and indivisible body.

Departmental Reports

The meeting featured reports from various departments, including updates on developmental projects from the Mayor Emeritus of Mbengwi Council, Ma Tebe Beatrice, and the organizing secretary, presenting on the progress and future plans.

Closing Remarks

The PG, Professor Oliver Njoh, welcomed all the EXCO members and expressed gratitude for their dedication. The meeting concluded with his closing remarks, emphasizing unity and the importance of continued collaboration for the progress of the Meta community.
