About Mecuda
In their quest for inclusive growth, MECUDA established MEWOCUDA (Meta Women Cultural and Development Association) and MEYOCUDA (Meta Youth Cultural and Development Association). MEWOCUDA focused on empowering Meta women, promoting gender equality, education, and economic empowerment. It sought to eliminate discriminatory practices and support rural women in their health and economic endeavors.
MEYOCUDA, on the other hand, dedicated itself to the development and integration of Meta youth into society. It provided educational opportunities, fostered leadership skills, and encouraged active participation in cultural and developmental activities. By nurturing the younger generation, MEYOCUDA ensured the continuity of Meta traditions and values.
MEFU: Guardians of Tradition
At the helm of the Meta cultural heritage stands the Meta Fons’ Union (MEFU), comprising the 32 traditional rulers of the Meta villages. MEFU works closely with MECUDA to maintain peace, unity, and development within the clan. The Fons, as guardians of Meta customs, play a vital role in upholding traditional values, resolving disputes, and leading the community during significant cultural events.
A Community United
The Meta people’s journey is a testament to the power of unity and the strength of cultural heritage. Through MECUDA, they have built sustainable infrastructure, promoted best agricultural practices, and showcased their rich culture through dances, arts, and cuisine. The Meta community has become a beacon of mutual assistance and selfless service, liberating themselves from all forms of complexes and encouraging civil conduct.
Looking Forward
Today, the Meta people continue to thrive, guided by their shared values and the unwavering commitment to their ancestral heritage. They embrace modernity while preserving their cultural identity, ensuring that every member of their community, from women and youth to traditional rulers, contributes to and benefits from collective prosperity. The Meta people’s story is one of resilience, unity, and an enduring legacy that inspires future generations.
In the land of the MENEMO, the past, present, and future are intertwined, creating a tapestry of history and progress that celebrates the spirit of a unique and proud people.

Our Journey
History
In the heart of the North West Region of Cameroon lies the vibrant and culturally rich land of the MENEMO people, commonly known as the Meta. Steeped in history and tradition, the Meta people have carved a unique identity, harmonizing their ancestral heritage with modern development. This is the story of their journey, from ancient trails to contemporary unity.
The Ancestral Origins
The story of the MENEMO people begins in Sanakang, a region in Mamfe Sub-Division, from where they embarked on a significant migratory journey. Led by their ancestral father, Tembengkah, and his sons Teghenicha, Tembengjoh, and Tetteh Mundam, the Meta people traveled westwards, ultimately settling in what is now the Mbengwi Sub-Division. This migration was marked by resilience and determination, as the three brothers guided their families through the challenges of relocation, forging a strong bond that would define the Meta community.
The Formation of the Meta Clan
Upon settling in their new land, the Meta people organized themselves into 32 distinct villages, each governed by a traditional ruler known as a Fon. These Fons, custodians of Meta customs and traditions, ensured the preservation of their rich cultural heritage. Over time, the Meta people established a society built on values of respect, discipline, and unity. Their language, Ita’, became a symbol of their identity, carrying the stories and wisdom of generations.
The Birth of MECUDA
Recognizing the need for a unified approach to development and cultural preservation, the Meta people formed the Meta Cultural and Development Association (MECUDA). This organization became the cornerstone of their communal efforts, embodying the motto “Unity and Strength.” MECUDA aimed to harness the diverse talents of Meta people spread across the globe, fostering development in political, economic, educational, social, and cultural domains.
